Freedom

So it has occured to me over the last year or so, that children like to behave better without thier parents around. And my last few sessions have really proved to me the importance of how sensitive children really are.  Children live in the moment, there is alot that I can learn from this. They do not carry weight and responsibility the way adults do, they are still free. So when they arive at a photoshoot they are natually ready for fun.  Parents on the other hand have an agenda, they want thier child to “behave,” and do a good job, and smile on command. Lol. The parents good intentions quite often have the opposite effect. (Please don’t think that this comes from a judging attitude, since I wasn’t much help with my own children on our last family photoshoot! Where I threatened and coerced my 3 year old in a desperate atempt to get her to “behave”)  The child(my subject) is my inspiration, an older child knows this, because children are so much smarter than we think. So just like any other relationship, when I photograph a child, we are playing a game of give and take. I prefer to play this game without being interupeted, if at all possible. So, that being said, I think I should invest in the device that lets parents watch thier childs photo shoot from the Ipad! Anyways, this sweet little 6 year old behaved perfectly for his shoot! His parents so graciously let me shoot him all on my own, no parents in sight:)
